Hold one key.Type with your voice, anywhere.
Hold fn on a Mac, or Ctrl + Win on Windows, and say it. In a text field your words land at the cursor, in Deska or in any other app, and every dictation is kept in your voice history.
Your words,wherever the cursor is.
Hold the talk key in a note, a browser or a chat app and say what you mean. Deska stays in the background, a small pill shows it listening, and when you let go the words land at the caret.
- Held in a text field the key types; held anywhere else it talks to Dex.
- A quick tap or Esc cancels, so nothing is sent by accident.
- The dictation shortcut works with Deska in the background too.
Every dictation,kept and searchable.
The Voice panel lists everything you said, newest first, and every entry says where its words went: sent to Dex, typed into a task, a file or a terminal, or pasted into the app you were in.
- Search finds an entry by its words or by where it went.
- Copy puts an entry back on the clipboard; Delete removes it.
- An entry that was not transcribed keeps its recording until a retry works.
Where your words go
The same key, read by where you are.
- A text field in Deska
- Typed at the cursor: a task, a note, a terminal or a file in the editor.
- Another appmacOS
- Pasted into the field you are in, with your clipboard put back afterwards.
- Nowhere to type
- Sent to Dex instead, who does what you asked and answers.
- A task’s composer
- Its send button reads Stop & send while the mic listens: one press stops, transcribes and sends.
Nothing you say goes missing.
Every recording is saved the moment you stop talking, and stays until its words come back. A failed transcription waits in the Voice panel with Retry transcription, not in the void.
Never lost
The recording is saved the moment you stop talking. If transcription fails, the entry says Not transcribed and offers Retry transcription.
Names spelled right
When speech to text mishears a name Deska knows, the words land fixed: Cloud Code becomes Claude Code.
Your clipboard comes back
On a Mac, Deska pastes your words into the other app and then puts back whatever was on your clipboard.
